Chapter XXV

¹

I escaped from my bonds, And to the I fled, O my God, ² Because thou hast been a right hand of deliverance, And my helper. ³ Thou hast restrained those who rose up against me, And I shall not see him again, ¹ So H: B ‘And they were not seen again’. ⁴ Because thy person was with me, Which saved me in thy grace. ² So H: B ‘goodness’. ⁵ But I was despised and rejected in the eyes of many, And I was in their eyes as lead. ⁶ And strength from thee was given me, And help. ⁷ Thou didst set a lamp for me on my right hand and on my left, And there will be ³ So H: B ‘That there might be’; and, similarly, the Coptic. nothing in me without light. ⁸ And I was covered with the covering of thy Spirit, And I removed from myself ⁴ The consonants might be pointed to read ‘Thou didst remove from me’. the ⁵ So H: B ‘my’. garments of skins, ⁹ Because thy right hand raised me up, And caused sickness to pass away from me. ¹⁰ And I became mighty in the ⁶ So H: B ‘thy’. truth, And holy in thy righteousness. ¹¹ And all who were opposed to me were afraid of me, And I became the Lord's, in the name of the Lord. ¹² And I was justified in his kindness; And his rest is for evermore.
