Text Commentary

A Hymn. Of Solomon.

1

Faithful is the Lord to those who love him in truth,  To those who endure his discipline, (1) 2To those who walk in the righteousness of his ordinances,  In the law which he commanded us that we might live. (2) 3The Lord's holy ones shall live by it for ever:  The garden of the Lord, the trees of life, are his holy ones. (3) 4Their planting is rooted for ever:  They shall not be pulled up all the days of heaven; 5 For the portion and the inheritance of God is Israel. (4) 6But not so are the sinners and lawless ones,  Who preferred a day in the companionship of their sin: 7 Their desire was for the briefness of corruption, (5) And they remembered not God. 8 For the ways of men are known before him at all times,  And he knows the secrets 1 Lit. ‘store-houses’. of the heart before they come to pass. (6) 9Therefore their inheritance is Sheol and darkness and destruction,  And they shall not be found in the day when the righteous obtain mercy. (7) 10But the Lord's holy ones shall inherit life with joy.

Notes:

1 Lit. ‘store-houses’.
