1 a 3:1 In Heb. 4:1 . When that time comes, on that day when I reverse the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, 2I shall gather all the nations together and lead them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat b 3:2 Jehoshaphat: that is The LORD has judged. . There I shall bring them to judgement on behalf of Israel, my own people, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have shared out my land 3and divided my people by lot, bartering a boy for a whore and selling a girl for a drink of wine.

4What are you to me, Tyre and Sidon and all the districts of Philistia? Are you bent on taking vengeance on me? If you were to take vengeance, I should make your deeds recoil swiftly and speedily on your own heads. 5You have taken my silver and gold and carried off my costly treasures to your temples; 6you have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, and removed them far beyond their own frontiers. 7But I shall rouse them to leave the places to which they have been sold. I shall make your deeds recoil on your own heads, 8by selling your sons and your daughters to the people of Judah, who will then sell them to the Sabaeans, a distant nation. Those are the LORD's words.

9Proclaim this amongst the nations: Declare war, call your troops to arms! Let all the fighting men advance to the attack. 10Beat your mattocks into swords and your pruning-knives into spears. Let even the weakling say, ‘I am strong.’ 11Muster, all you nations round about; let them gather together there. LORD, send down your champions! 12Let the nations hear the call to arms and march up to the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I shall sit in judgement on all the nations round about. 13Wield the knife, for the harvest is ripe; come, tread the grapes, for the winepress is full; empty the vats, for they are full to the brim. 14A noisy throng in the valley of Decision! The day of the LORD is at hand in the valley of Decision: 15sun and moon are darkened and the stars withhold their light. 16The LORD roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem so that heaven and earth shudder; but the LORD is a refuge for his people, a defence for Israel. 17Thus you will know that I am the LORD your God, dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain; Jerusalem will be holy, and foreigners will never again set foot in it.

18When that day comes, the mountains will run with the new wine and the hills flow with milk. Every channel in Judah will be full of water; a fountain will spring from the LORD's house and water the wadi of Shittim. 19Egypt will become a desolation and Edom a desolate waste, because of the violence done to Judah and the innocent blood shed in her land. 20But Judah will be inhabited for ever, Jerusalem for generation after generation. 21I shall avenge their blood, the blood I have not yet avenged, and the LORD will dwell in Zion.
