1 MOSES went up from the lowlands of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah eastwards from Jericho, and the LORD showed him the whole land, from Gilead to Dan; 2the whole of Naphtali; the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all Judah as far as the western sea; 3the Negeb and the plain; the valley of Jericho, city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. 4The LORD said to him, ‘This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that I would give to their descendants. I have let you see it with your own eyes, but you will not cross over into it.’

5There in the Moabite country Moses the servant of the LORD died, as the LORD had said. 6He was buried in a valley in Moab opposite Beth-peor; but to this day no one knows his burial-place. 7Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, his sight undimmed, his vigour unimpaired. 8The Israelites wept for Moses in the lowlands of Moab for thirty days.

The time of mourning for Moses came to an end. 9Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. The Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.

10There has never yet risen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face: 11remember all the signs and portents which the LORD sent him to show in Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants and the whole land; 12remember the strong hand of Moses and the awesome deeds which he did in the sight of all Israel.
