The Oxford Study Bible Study Bible supplemented with commentary from scholars of various religions.

Conclusion

There is in antiquity no other region of comparable extent, with similar ethnic and linguistic diversity, that has produced a comparable amount and variety of literary texts, or shared so many traditions and ideals, as the ancient Near East. Through this immense literature one gains insight into the cultural milieu in which the authors of biblical literature lived and were inspired. It is no wonder, then, that the same literary richness and vitality are reflected in the Bible, the sacred scriptures for so many in so diverse a world.
