The Blessings of the Just

1Hallelujah!

Happy are those* who fear the LORD, who greatly delight in God's commands. o Pss 1, 1–2; 119, 1–2; 128, 1 . 2Their descendants shall be mighty in the land, a generation upright and blessed. 3Wealth and riches shall be in their homes; their prosperity* shall endure forever. 4They shine through the darkness, a light for the upright; p Pss 37, 6; 97, 11; Prv 13, 9; Is 58, 10 . they are gracious, merciful, and just. 5All goes well for those gracious in lending, who conduct their affairs with justice. 6They shall never be shaken; the just shall be remembered forever. q Prv 10, 7; Wis 8, 13 . 7They shall not fear an ill report; their hearts are steadfast, trusting the LORD. 8Their hearts are tranquil, without fear, till at last they look down on their foes. 9Lavishly they give to the poor; their prosperity shall endure forever; r Prv 22, 9; 2 Cor 9, 9 . their horn* shall be exalted in honor. 10The wicked shall be angry to see this; they will gnash their teeth and waste away; the desires of the wicked come to nothing.
