Ancient Trade Routes
Adrian Curtis
Mention has already been made of the fact that the territory occupied by the Israelites formed a land‐bridge through which routes from Africa and Arabia to Mesopotamia and Asia Minor (and vice versa) must have passed, and of its consequent strategic and commercial significance. So merchandise carried over land must have passed through this narrow coastal strip. Solomon's exploitation of this geographical location has also been alluded to. It is therefore appropriate to make some brief comments on ancient trade routes in so far as that is possible.
